LESSONS FROM LUKIS

New Devotional: Lessons from Lukis - order your copy

Children and grandchildren have a way of teaching us things we never knew, reminding us of the things we used to know, and prompting us to be more aware of things we saw in the past but were too busy to notice.

Lessons from Lukis is an inspiring and challenging collection of 12 devotionals, plus a bonus devotional, written by proud grandfather, Pastor Dave. Each story parallels a lesson that every Christ follower can use to grow his or her relationship with Christ.

Books ordered online can be picked up at the church. You can also choose to have the booked mailed to you for an additional $5 for shipping and handling.

The following is an excerpt from the chapter titled "Reaching the Heart of God":

Following a meeting a few days ago, I reached in my briefcase and noticed I had a missed call from Kelli, my daughter-in-law, but she didn’t leave a message. It was late in the evening, so I rushed home. While in the car, I tried to return the call, only to go to voice mail.

Upon entering my house I observed Elli on the phone with Lukis. Apparently he had tried to call me earlier (with his mom’s phone) and was expressing his frustration to Grandma about Papa not answering his phone call. I believe his exact words were, “Why won’t my Papa answer his phone?”

I understand his frustration. I don’t like busy signals or unanswered calls. The psalmist pleaded with God to listen to his call. “Bend down to listen, and answer me quickly.” Psalm 102 could be titled, "Don’t Hide Your Face From Me".

Have you felt like that? Being frustrated in your deficiencies, delayed with detours, or interrupted by discouragements has a way tinting your prayer with urgency. Sometimes we find ourselves in situations that are challenging or even impossible. Some are just plain disappointing. The good news is .
